In January 1972, an edited version of the song was released as a single with Long Distance Runaround on the B-side. The song was written by singer Jon Anderson and guitarist Steve Howe. Eh, I guess things are just coming full-circle, given that JoJo played a role in me getting into several of the artists I now listen to. Roundabout is the opening track for the 1971 album Fragile by British progressive rock band Yes. Who knows? Either way, it's an interesting thought about a show I enjoy spurned on in a place where I frankly didn't expect it to pop up.

Not sure whether or not the practice will continue with later parts of the series either, given that there are currently three that have yet to be adapted to animation.Ĭome to think of it, maybe the audio for "Roundabout" was just pulled from an old YouTube upload. I myself didn't notice much difference with available YouTube uploads of the songs, but then again those are YouTube uploads I don't have access to the original commercial releases.

Now I'm curious to know if there's any particular differences with the mixes of the show's other ending themes (as of this writing, "Walk Like an Egyptian" by the Bangles, "Last Train Home" by Pat Metheny Group, "I Want You" by Savage Garden, "Freak'n You" by Jodeci, and "Modern Crusaders" by Enigma). I'm wondering whether or not the mix was made specifically for the TV series, given possible limitations of cable broadcasting in Japan (I'd also assume online streaming bandwidth limitations would've been considered, though the fact that the series didn't debut on Crunchyroll until 2014 casts this into doubt). Call it morning driving thru sound and in and out the valley.
